I come here by accident and found that here is just like a desert! I'm sorry to say that but it is a truth! A lot more can be done to do the work well but yet you did little.

The July/August J. of Soil and Water Conservation (pgs. 321-326) describes the nitrogen use practices of farmers in China as a source of great concern from several different dimensions and perspectives. The article closes with Hu et al. 2009 summary, "Whether China's current agricultural extension system can deliver appropriate information and knowledge on the efficiency of N fertilization to millions of farmers is an issue that requires further study since the existing agricultural extension system also faces great challenges related to providing technology services to farmers."

I would like to share my observations of how extension services perform in the US. today. Sometime following the work of H.H. Bennett, the father of natural resource conservation in the US, America's farmers were illiterate regarding agroecology and the scientific method. The US government, and institutions of higher education joined hands to assist farmers improve yield, crop quality, and adjust practices to focus upon a farm's most limiting factors. As if this remains an essential role of government, these legions of land-grant university, tax-payer funded extension agents remain.
In the US today, a majority of our citizens, mostly Republicans, Libertarians, and Independents, decry government interference to markets and domains very amenable to private enterprise. As an independent. for profit agroecology consultant, specialized in precision irrigation and fertigation. I carry professional insurance, and bear full, professional liablity for my assessments and recommendations. Because extension services in the US do not compete, nor do they charge a fair fee for their field services, they cannot be held liable. This renders the value of my services = $00.00.
I urge the good professors at the China Agricultural University in Beijing to consider a new paradigm. Universities need to focus on basic research and not applied science. To remain knowledgeable in applied science and technology transfer to farmers, which is only natural, professional (private-sector) crop advisers, competing in an open market, should regularly hold lectures on campuses across China. Do not follow our path into socialized agribusiness. Support your students who must perform in the private sector and deliver measurable, certified, sustainable results.
