The SAIN WG 4 Workshop "Developing a catchment management template to mitigate non-point source pollution" Norwich£¬UK

In March 16-18, 2011, the workshop of "Developing a catchment management template to mitigate non-point source pollution in China" was held in University of East Anglia. The China side chair of SAIN WG4, Gao Shangbin, the Director-General of Agro-Environmental Protection Institution, MOA and a 5 people delegation attend the workshop.

In the workshop, the participants have deeply discussed the frontier of the catchment management and future cooperation, and they have following consensus:

       •  Continue to find the financial support from government or funds;

       •  Try to apply the Catchment Sensitive Farming techniques and policies in China to prvent the non-point pollution;

       •  Review the litrature to research th non-point pollution and catchment management in China and UK, and compose the article for journal;

       • Strengthen the cooperation between China and UK in agricultural research area, and UK experts are welcome to go to China to direct the catchment monitoring or to investigate the non-point pollution in China

Participants from Defra; Nature England; School of Oriental and African Studies; Kingston University; Imperial College; University of East Anglia; Agro-Environmental Protection Institution, MOA; China Agricultural University; Northwest Agricultural and Forestry University attend the workshop.

Before the workshop, the participants have visited the Manor Farm and the Black water catchment demonstration site of Wensum River in Norfolk County where the monitoring is carrying out. And they are also invited to visite the Environmental Science College of University of East Anglia, including Climatic Research Unit, Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Conservation, Centre for social and Economic Research on the Global Environment, Laborotory for Global Marine and Atmospheric Chemistry, Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, etc.
