SAIN’s Governing Board First Meeting Was Held in Beijing

SAIN’s first Governing Board meeting was successfully held in Beijing on 7th July. The meeting was chaired by the Governing Board co-chairs, Prof Bob Watson, Defra Chief Scientific Advisor, and Mr Niu Dun, Vice Minister of Agriculture of China.

At the meeting, the Board members discussed and approved SAIN’s governance and management structure, terms of Reference and business plan, working group research proposals, SAIN annual work plan, communication strategy, as well as SAIN’s link to other initiatives.

Both Professor Watson and Vice Minister Niu Dun pointed out the meeting was a major milestone in the implementation of UK-China collaboration in sustainable agriculture, and they both highly praised the agreement achieved at the meeting.

Attendees of the meeting included eleven Governing Board members, four Working Group co-chairs, two Secretariats coordinators, as well as senior officials from Ministry of Agriculture, Dfid, Defra and British Embassy in Beijing.
