This workshop was jointly funded by Research Councils UK (RCUK), National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), China Agricultural University (CAU), Lancaster University (LU), and Global Environmental Change and Food Systems (GECAFS). The aim of the workshop was to bring together opinion-formers from a broad range of disciplines with a view to informing policy that will be crucial if we are to feed a population rising to nine billion as changes in the climate and in land use are likely to make food production ever more problematic.
