China-UK Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network (SAIN)

Working Group 1 Meeting

16-19 September, 2009

The first group meeting of Working Group 1 (WG1, nutrients management) meeting was held at Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU), China on 16-19th September 2009. The meeting was chaired by Prof David Powlson and Prof Zhou Jianbin.

The main agenda of the meeting included:

  • Introduction of SAIN
  • Report on WG1 on-going projects
  • Review and revise two research proposals (on manure nutrient management, and phosphorus pollution control) in the light of Governing Board¨s comments
  • Exchange research priorities in soil nutrients management in both UK and China
  • Plan the work for next stage

During the period, the participants also visited various types of organic fertilizer manufactories, research facilities at Nanjing Agricultural University and Institute of Soil Sciences, and non-point pollution control experiments in Taihu Lake area.

The efficient arrangements made by Prof Zhou Jianbin (WG1 co-chair) and local host Prof Shen Qirong (Vice-President of NAU, WG1 member), Prof Huang Qiwei (NAU) Prof Shi Weiming (Institute of Soil Science, WG1 member) were highly appreciated by all participants.
